BARTRAM’S GARDEN
In 2008, I was at the very beginning of my botanical art project. Someone suggested I reach out to Bartram’s Garden to see if they might be interested in a body of work I'd created called My Backyard Plant Explorations (see the collection below). I made an appointment with Melanie, the Education Director, who responded to the work immediately. She told me it reminded her of how John Bartram himself got his start in the horticultural world—inspired by a daisy he saw growing in his garden.
They invited me to do my first solo show in their beautiful barn. From this collection, I created many different products that were on display in the Bartram’s Gift Store such as limited edition prints and note cards.
As it turned out, Mark Dion's incredible art installation was being featured at the same time. I felt lucky to be in such great company.
